Breaking Stereotypes Frame by Frame @ Lady Irwin College, DU

14th January 2016, Day One : A three day workshop was held at the department of Development Communication and extension at Lady Irwin College, New Delhi. Students were introduced to the issue and how grassroots comics could be successfully used as a development communication tool to address the same. Most of the students gained from the discussions that were held on the issue. Sharing personal stories and stereotypes with each other created an awareness among students and thus the flow of information continued to brighten up more minds.

15th January, 2016, On Day Two, These stories were then given the shape of the comics. Many students incorporated their own stereotypes into the comics while many made it on their own personal experiences and imagination. The workshop was then culminated and 14 comic strips were ready, each depicting a different story in its own way

One of the story was about a north-east boy who is telling his friend from Bihar that in his part of the country, people can marry easily according to their choice which comes as a shocker to the Bihari girl who then thinks that how regressive and backward her society is. Another story depicted a group of friends who have gone to visit India gate and asks a boy (who apparently is from north-east) to click a picture of them and later on while thanking him they perceived him as some foreigner. The story ends with boy telling them that he is from India only.

19h January, 2016, Exhibition : Even the chilling weather of the January could not keep students from preparing their exhibition and taking it out to other students. Many students were seen asking questions and the overall response was quite good. Feedbacks and reviews were taken and discussions were held at the moment to clear up the things even more.
