No Stereotypes Plz North East is India!
ABOUT
About 86% of people from northeast living in Delhi have faced discrimination, according to research by the North East Helpline and Support Centre based in New Delhi.
In last few years several cases of discrimination and racial attack against the northeastern state people have been recorded in various part of the country. Unfortunately the issue of racism against people from north-east India make headlines only when a major incident like the brutal killing of Nido occurs.
Many students from NE believe that since they look different or have mongoloid features they are identified easily and bullied for looking different.
The identity of mainland India often excludes the northeast, a region often described as far-flung, remote and conflict-ridden. Northeasterners are frequently stereotyped as morally loose women in skimpy skirts who are sexually available, or good-for-nothing men who are drug addicts or insurgents.
World Comics India with the support of National Foundation for India and in collaboration with wide variety of organisations and educational institutes has started a campaign to break the stereotypes and end discrimination against the people living in northeastern part of the country. The fact is that discrimination is a global phenomenon and not just confined to one geographical location or a culture. This Campaign will also focus and examin the discrimination exists with in the northeastern region.
